Learn something new every day
Usually in a bash script when I want to parse a file line by line I do something like this: exec < foo.txt while read LINE; do SOMEVAR=$SOMEVAR,$LINE done This evening I was writing a bash wrapper for debootstrap to automate the building of chroot environments and for some reason I chose to stray away [...]

Updated Pyramid LiveCD Installer
I mentioned in this email a little while back that I released a new Pyramid LiveCD Installer with the 1.0b5 version of Pyarmid. This CD provides a simple method for boot strapping a Soekris net45XX/net48XX single board computer. Some models accept normal compact flash cards for the operating system media in which case you could [...]

How to give a technical preso…Do as I say, not as I do
Adam mentioned a mailing list discussion we participated in where I spouted off some suggestions for giving presentations. This is has a slight bent to hacker cons. Funny thing is I am sure I am guilty of quite a few things on that list when it comes to presentation throw down. But eh, I still [...]

Novatel Merlin u730 HSPDA Card in Linux
Decided to try and get a friend’s u730 cellular data card working in Pyramid Linux last night. I thought it would pretty trivial since the card appears to use the same chipset as other EVDO/HSPDA cards already supported in the airprime module. But it turns out the device/vendor id combo is not in airprime. This [...]

Shmoocon tickets have been on sale now for a couple of days and early bird tickets for the first round have sold out! You can still get “Open Reg” and “I love shmoocon” tickets at the registration page. Myself and Cowboym have been organizing the NOC for the past two Shmoocons, this year in addition [...]

Food Hacking Lab, dyno-mite
So I occasionally post some food related things. I think this weekend has inspired me to do some more. I was honored through a string of coincidences have my house be a stop on the 2006 West Coast FoodHacking tour.I was introduced to Marc via a good friend. After discussing the possibility of Hack Lab [...]

Google and open source mesh…please?
There are some questions being asked about the Google wifi project in Mountain View, CA. It appears that the real world performance is not acceptable from some user complaints and the network appears to buckle under pressure! Imagine that, a wireless network buckling under pressure! The wireless portion of the network is powered by Tropos, [...]
